What Is a Skin Care Specialist?

Skin Care Specialists provide professional treatments to improve skin health and appearance. They perform services such as microdermabrasion, chemical peels, dermaplaning, hydrafacials, microneedling, and acne treatments. Skin Care Specialists also educate clients on skincare routines and recommend medical-grade products.

What Is a MedSpa Clinician?

MedSpa Clinicians deliver integrated skin and device treatments, performing therapies such as laser, radiofrequency, microneedling, and advanced facials. MedSpa Clinicians also provide consultations, ensuring safety, and planning client care in a clinical aesthetic environment.

Which One Is Right for You? MedSpa Clinician vs. Skin Care Specialist

Which speciality is right for you depends on your career goals. While both career paths focus on improving a client’s skin, the main difference comes down to training, treatment capabilities, and workplace setting. MedSpa Clinicians perform their services using more advanced tools and medical-grade technologies, while Skin Care Specialists practice a more basic form of general skincare. If you are looking for a career that offers more opportunity for growth and advancement, then a career as a MedSpa Clinician will likely be more appealing to you.

Come to International Beauty Institute for your MedSpa Clinician Training!

International Beauty Institute offers a 6-month Advanced MedSpa Clinician program which provides the professional instruction, hands-on practical training, and the flexible schedules you need to pursue your career as a MedSpa Clinician. At IBI, students learn the technical skills and safety regulations to provide excellent skin care services while providing exceptional client care. Students learn how to perform advanced skin care treatments using medical-grade technologies, while understanding how to conduct professional client consultations and utilize effective sanitization and sterilization practices.

In comparison to the Advanced Skin Care Specialist program (9 weeks), the Advanced MedSpa Clinician program is slightly longer (25 weeks), but offers a significantly more comprehensive training program. The Skin Care Specialist program focuses on skin care only, while the MedSpa Clinician program expands into body treatments, laser, contouring, and medical spa business practice and operations. The MedSpa Clinician program even includes an intro to Botox!

With its broader focus and advanced technologies instruction, the MedSpa Clinician opens the door for more opportunities for graduates. Graduates of the Advanced MedSpa Clinician program will be prepared for positions in medical spas, dermatology clinics, physician’s offices, skincare facilities, aesthetic laser clinics, plastic surgery clinics, or even to launch their own business.

Financial aid** is available for qualifying students in the MedSpa Clinician program, but is not available for students in the Skin Care Specialist program. Students enrolled in the Skin Care Specialist program can upgrade to the Advanced MedSpa Clinician program.
