I was driving though the drive-thru for my morning coffee the other day and I noticed in the mirror a forehead line; I panicked because I thought I wasn’t supposed to be getting those ‘till I hit 40. I’ve been getting multiple grey hairs and laugh lines, but I JUST turned 27 and I couldn’t believe how fast I was aging. After taking a few deep breaths, I calmed down and told myself that aging is a natural process and that a lot of people can be denied of that. I went home and vented to my mom about my new-found enemy on my face and she suggested that maybe I should buy anti-aging cream; I laughed in her face but she was serious. I locked myself in my room like an angry teenager and began researching ways to stump the inevitable wrinkles and laugh lines.
The deeper I got into my research, the more I learned about dermarolling. Dermarolling is the process of using a mini device that looks a bit like a paint roller on your skin to smooth out lines, wrinkles and pores; over time dermarolling allows the skin to absorb product better and it allows your dermis to breathe effortlessly leading to baby face skin. Medical aesthetics courses have also been introducing dermarolling as their subject because clients are increasingly obsessed with reversing the process of aging. Medical esthetics training offers medical aesthetics classes such as chemical peel protocols, skin typing, skin health, and skin diseases and an introduction to the most recent skin health technology.
When you’re younger, you take for granted how easy it is to roll out of your bed in the morning with no makeup and head out to work, while still looking fresh and rested. I tried doing that the other week, and someone literally asked me if I broke up with my boyfriend because I looked exhausted and sad. On a day to day basis you don’t realize you’re getting older, but a year passes, and you look at old photos and realize you have clearly aged. Graduates of an esthetics institute help people like me cope with the unavoidable fact that wrinkles and laugh lines are just a natural add-on of getting older. While dermarolling, chemical peels and face masks can help your skin feel smoother and tighter, at some point your age will show. You will have to learn to understand and respect your body going through the process of aging as many are denied the privilege of getting older. Next time I see a wrinkle on my forehead I’ll make sure to smile so I can have a laugh line too.
