Alpha Hydroxy Acid (Glycolic & Lactic Acid)

Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (Glycolic and Lactic) are naturally occurring acids derived from the sugars in particular substances. These acids work by dissolving the bond that holds dead skin cells together. This increases cell turnover, and at greater concentrations, deeper dermal effects such as increased collagen synthesis. The activity of an Alpha Hydroxy Acid involves the concentration of AHA and the pH. Effective concentrations should be at 8% with a pH between 2.5 and 4.0. Lactic acid is a natural humectant and Lactic Acid’s larger molecule size makes it less irritating than Glycolic Acid.AHA’s exfoliate and stimulate the skin; improving the appearance of fine lines, pigmentation, acne, tone, texture, smoothness, softness, and overall healthy glow. Used in moderation, morning and evening, skin should respond within a few days. Glycolic Acid is incorporated in our Bioactive Solutions, AHA Gels, and Clinical Peel formulations. Lactic Acid is incorporated in our Gentle AHA Cream and Clinical Peel formulations.
