Laser Pigment Removal and Age Spots Treatment

Hyper-pigmentation, also known as “age spots”, is a common aesthetic concern. This occurs when specific skin cells called “melanocytes” become overactive due to unprotected sun exposure (free radical damage) or as a result of trauma to the skin. These overactive cells can sometimes be calmed with exfoliation treatments (such as microdermabrasion or chemical peels) and products containing peptides (such as the Lumixyl skin care line) but are best treated with laser to eliminate these overactive cells from the skin.

At the International Beauty Institute we use 2 types of advanced laser technologies to treat hyper-pigmented skin. A series of photofacials using IPL technology has been shown to lighten pigmentation and stimulate collagen. These very non-invasive “spa like” treatments and are generally spaced 4 weeks apart.

Alternatively, we use a powerful Tattoostar ND:Yag  laser by Asclepion to effectively target pigment as a “spot treatment”. This laser quickly breaks down these damaged cells and the body flushes them out naturally thus “fading” the pigment. This quick treatment requires very little healing and is effective at treating darker spots or stubborn pigment. With minimal pain and downtime, either of these options may be appropriate to treat your pigmentation.
